Article Directories: Step-by-Step Guide to Establishing a Successful Blogging Business

Since starting this blog, I’ve begun to settle into a daily routine that I go through each day when doing my Blogging work.  It goes something like this:

  • Get off my ‘other job’
  • Scarf down something resembling food
  • Quickly scan my favorite blogs (see my blog roll for the current list of blogs that I try to read each day)
  • Make at least five quality comments across a few different blogs to help gain this blog some visibility and exposure.  Objective: Increase Traffic!
  • Brainstorm some new ideas for future content or site improvements
  • Work on writing one or more posts
  • Crash for about six hours of sleep

It’s really easy to get caught up in the excitement of reading about new ideas on the blogs, or to start working on a completely unrelated task, but I try to stick to the above process each day as much as possible.

Every day, without fail, I come across new ideas that I think I absolutely have to implement.  Of course I have to pick and choose the ones that I think are going to have the biggest payoff, or there would never be time to actually write any content.

Today, the one idea that really caught my attention was the idea of submitting content to article directories as a technique to increase traffic, website visibility and overall exposure of your fledgling Blog.  I first came across the idea of using article directories on Lewis Empire’s Blog, where a few considerate comments led me to another article on the subject at SEORearcher.com.  The bad news is, if you submit your content to multiple directories (which you’ll want to do if you’re trying to maximize traffic), it can take a lot of time.  The great thing about the second article is that it lists the Google PageRank and Alexa Traffic Ranking of each of the article submission websites.  Although both metrics are far from perfect, they do give you a good idea of which sites are most likely to get the most traffic, and where you might want to initially concentrate your efforts.

Once I finish my next post on Protecting Your Domain Name from Cyber-Squatters and Typo-Squatters, I’ll submit the series of articles to a few different directories and report back on how much traffic they generate after a week and a month.
