Getting out of your shell and participating in comment discussions in the Blogosphere is a great way to get your name out there, build relationships, and build links back to your own site.
As a matter of fact, we just got our first link back from the man himself–Darren Rowse at ProBlogger.net–for a comment I left there about Starting a Blog - What We Wish We Knew.
Recognizing your top commentators is a great way to encourage active discussions–especially for new Blogs that are just trying to get started. You’ll find that a lot of the blogs that are on the D-List also tend to recognize top commentators. In that spirit, I’ve installed a new WordPress plugin written by Webgrrrl that automatically creates a site-wide backlink to our top commentators.

I think that the top commentators plugin is great. I’ve added it to my blog as well and have seen an increase in comments. It really does encourage people to leave a comment. Of course there is going to be some abuse but you can control that a bit. I just need to figure out how to add the top commentators to just the home page because right now it is showing on every page… If you know how to keep it just on the home page let me know.
Regards,
Jeff
