What is DoFollow?
As I mentioned yesterday, Zen Zoomie’s Place has officially joined the "Do Follow" movement, aka "No No Follow". By default, WordPress blogs implement something called "NoFollow" for all links posted in comments.
Why would WordPress do that? Let’s go back to our sometimes trusty WikiPedia:
nofollow is an HTML attribute value used to instruct search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of spamdexing, thereby improving the quality of search engine results and preventing spamdexing from occurring in the first place.
So the basic idea is to improve search engine results and reduce the effects of spam. But that means that everyone who is contributing valuable content to your website or Blog through comments is also being "nofollowed". I’m using the SemioLogic DoFollow plugin for WordPress to make sure that everyone who contributes a quality comment to this blog with an associated link will be recognized appropriately by all of the search engines, and I encourage you to do the same.
I already mentioned Courtney Tuttle’s DoFollow or "D-List", but here are two other resources to get you going:
- BumpZee has a directory of Blogs who practice NoNoFollowing here
- Nicusor, one of our loyal readers, also maintains a D-List at his Blog here
Until next time, enjoy the never ending link love of the Zoom…!

Hmm… I didn’t know that was default these days. I want to say even a little over a year ago when I commented on blogs, I’d get an incoming link.

Thanks - been at Bumpzee for a while now (that’s how I find you!), but didn’t know about the other two lists. I have now joined up (or at least requested to).
