It’s a question that this blog set out to answer, and based on the sheer number of "make money online" blogs out there, it’s on a lot of your minds as well. Can any John Doe start a new blog and turn it into a profitable and successful blogging business in a relatively short period of time? Is that something that’s within the reach of the average netizen?
John Chow’s Challenge
John Chow has set out to prove that you don’t need a big name behind you, or tons of existing connections, to create a successful blog. He’s taken a challenge to anonymously start a new blog with a $100 budget and turn it into a "somebody" blog. The definition of what makes him "successful" is under debate at JohnChow.com right now: $100 a month? $1000 a month? $10,000 a month??
This particular John has a big advantage when it comes to experience, so I don’t think it’s a question of if—but rather when—he’ll meet his goal (whatever it ends up being set at).
This should be fun to watch!

Thanks for blogging about this. I never really follow John Chow’s activity, but this definitely peak my interest.
Thanks also for dropping by my blog. I see you have Success From The Nest highlighted in your blogroll; it’s one of the best blogs I see so far!

It’ll be interesting to see John’s results considering his success so far. If it’s repeatable then maybe we can glean some measurable rules for creating traffic and “buzz” for a new blog.

I’m very interested in this venture. I’d also love to know his stats. Imagine if you’ve done better than Chow in less time!

Lorna, I agree…I’m constantly amazed by the posts on Success from the Nest. There aren’t many blogs where I look forward to every single post, but that’s one of them!
@Lorna, Steve & Lewis, if Chow does this right, it could be one of the most useful tools out there. And the how I did it will be huge. The only problem is, the 8 gazillion people that will try to emulate every step he takes….which will make everything he did less effective as soon as he talks about it..

I’m also curious to see what happens here. I do suspect your right Zen Zoomie, the guide to his success on this new site will be followed to the nth degree.

I am normally not interested in John Chow, but this does look like an interesting experiment - although as others have commented, once he publishes the results and everyone copies it, it will reduce the effectiveness immediately. I never eat at the restaurants listed in the Lonely Planet, they are always more expensive and lower quality than when the writer ate there.
