Alexa Traffic Rank 2: Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Successful Blogging Business

One of the nice things about metrics is that you can easily measure your progress towards a goal. Of course, the flip side of the coin is that if your metric is defective, you’re not really sure how much progress you’ve made towards a meaningful goal. Alexa traffic rank is one of those things that’s easily measurable, but because of the flawed nature of the metric, you’re not really sure how much progress you’ve made towards the goals that really count…the ones that will take your blog from the unknown and turn it into a successful business!

At any rate, flawed or not, I’m happy to report that Zen Zoomie’s Place has now achieved an Alexa Traffic rank of 1,336,647 as of Friday the 13th, July, 2007 (umm…..I hope you’re not too superstitious). That’s a 640% improvement in the last week or so (we were ranked 8,600,000+ as of last week)! Not bad. I’ll talk more about exactly what went into this ranking tomorrow… Until then,

Be Zen!

Well, you’re up to 241,867 now, so that’s abig improvement! I’m in the high 400,000s but slowly moving in the right direction too.

Alexa is flawed (and apparently easy to game), but let’s face it, we need something to measure whether we are doing the right thing, and at the moment PageRank and Alexa are it. I’d really like to see a better system - but I’m not sure what.
